MAURITIUS
Mauritius, officially the Republic, a online country profile of the small remote archipelago in the Indian Ocean in eastern Southern Africa. The island nation is situated about 900 km (560 mi east of Madagascar and (180km) French Réunion.
The country includes several islands of volcanic origin. Besides the main island of Mauritius, there is Rodrigues Island 600 km away to the east and two outer islands, Agaléga, 1065 km to the north, and the uninhabited archipelago of the Cargados Carajos Shoals (Saint Brandon), 430 km to the northeast.Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Réunion belong to the Mascarene Islands, with Mauritius being the largest. The island is about 61 km long and 45 km wide, with an area of 1,864 km²; in comparison, it is slightly smaller than Tenerife or about as big as Maui, Hawaii.
Climate: Mauritius enjoys a mild tropical maritime climate throughout the year. The country has two seasons: a warm humid summer extending from November to April and a relatively cool dry winter from June to September. The month of October and May are commonly known as the transition months.
Population: Mauritius 2020 population is estimated at 1,271,768 people at mid-year according to UN data. Mauritius population is equivalent to 0.02% of the total world population. Mauritius ranks number 157 in the list of countries (and dependencies) by population.
Capital: Port Louis (French: Port-Louis) is the capital city of Mauritius. It is mainly located in the Port Louis District, with a small western part in the Black River District. Port Louis is the country’s economic, cultural and political centre, and most populous city. It is administered by the Municipal City Council of Port Louis.
Major Cities in Mauritius: Mauritius is divided into nine districts which consist of 1 city, 4 towns and 130 villages, the capital is Port Louis. The Plaines Wilhems District consist mainly of four towns that is Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill, Curepipe, Quatre Bornes and Vacoas-Phoenix.
